Growing plants
We grow food from seeds that we can get from various sources. We can buy and save seeds from our own harvest, from neighbors, from the local market, from the botanical garden. We can send the seeds in an envelope by post or get new varieties and new seeds by post. The planting site can be near the house or in a field or in a community garden. Preferably where there is a source of water for watering the transplants. We can collect rainwater in barrels from the roof of the house or we take water from a well or stream or from river. Water is important at the beginning of cultivation until the plants are strong enough. The transplants are best watered in the morning or in the evening. Seeds that are soaked in water overnight before planting take root faster and grow better.
